Fragment-Based Drug Discovery

Drug discovery is a highly interdisciplinary field, which encompasses a variety of specialist areas and involves multiple steps. Generally, it begins with identifying and validating a therapeutic target.

Once you have the target you must identify “hits” that interact with your target; this can be achieved using a variety of screening strategies. These hits are then further optimized and transformed by medicinal chemists into “high-quality” leads – suitable for further preclinical and clinical testing.
